YOLO

I really don't know how this topic came up in conversation, but for some reason I said something about the phrase "Yolo" to Jeremy the other day.

He looked at me with a face that said, "I think she's speaking a foreign language, and has possibly actually lost her mind and/or just used some phrase very incorrectly".

Uh, no. I did not use the phrase incorrectly.  My much older husband was just not hip to the cool new phrases like Yolo.

YOLO is an acronym for "you only live once". Similar to carpe diem or memento mori, it implies that one should enjoy life, even if that entails taking risks. The phrase and acronym are used in youth culture and music, and were popularized by the 2011 song "The Motto" by Canadian rapper Drake.

That's right. I'm still cool. I may be 8 weeks away from turning 30, but I still know cool things like Yolo.

And so began the Yolo education in our household....

We watched yolo YouTube videos...
And read Yolo articles....

I had to educate the guy about such important matters as yolo.

And now, he's a Yolo master.

That's right Miss. Mollie. You're parents are totally hip.  We know what yolo means.

So much has changed. It was not that long ago that you two were wondering whether the Harlem Shake was a new type of dessert at McDonald's...

We have really evolved since then. Well, I have at least. Jeremy is still in the dark about these things.

I think the weirdest part about this post is that Jeremy is stored in your phone as Jeremy S Frank. Very formal relationship you have! (I found out what yolo was via a billboard in rural Wisconsin. I'm cool)

I assume you also watched The Lonely Island's "YOLO", right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5Otla5157c
